Stupid horse! How can I make him listen!!?

I ride this really stupid horse at my barn and whenever I pull back and kick he goes backwards! I don't have an instructor either. Now when he does backwards I hit him with the crop. I've also started using spurs but he still backs up! I need him to go forward if I want to do reining! I have my first show Saturday and I want to get first but I can't because I ride this stupid old fart. It's not my horse, I don't know who owns it I just ride it when i'm bored. I was planning on trailering it myself. SO1 How do I get it to go forward!
