Question for theists on the burden of proof?

Ok, now notice what you're doing in this example: you're looking for a physical object with your physical senses. God is not a physical object. So if you look for a non-physical object with your physical senses, should you be shocked when you don't find it, and what have you proved or disproved, if anything?
